Havana. The name itself conjures up the tropics, romance, adventure. And even under the austerity caused by the trade embargo, Havana does not disappoint. The people are out-going and open, much like this capital city itself. From Vedado, the city's bustling business district to Habana Vieje (Old Havana) - a designated UNESCO World Heritage site, there is much to see and much to do.

There is so much history and so much romance that goes with it. Spanish galleons, laden with treasure from the New World, left from Havana's harbour bound for Spain - only to be attacked by roving pirates. Today, monuments like Havana's fortress El Morro remain as testimonial to the city's rich and turbulent past. For North Americans, music is something you go to hear at a concert once a month!  For Cubans, music is in their blood and wherever you go, in a restaurant or blaring from 1950's automobiles ( some in remarkable shape ) you can hear the Cuban rhumba or traditional son music - the forerunner of salsa.
